The Best Anime Mobile Games

Key Takeaways

  • Anime-inspired mobile games offer a diverse range of experiences, from rhythm games to RPGs.
  • Familiar franchises like Dragon Ball and One Piece thrive in the mobile gaming world with innovative gameplay.
  • Gacha games with accompanying anime can provide an immersive and interactive way to enjoy beloved series.

There are quite literally hundreds of mobile games out there, with the anime aesthetic often reigning supreme. Within these mobile games, you can find a variety that have an accompanying anime, whether it came first or second. Some of these anime are already quite popular, while others were created as a result of the game.

Looking for the perfect game that has an accompanying anime for you to watch? In this list, we are going to go over just that. This will include games that are based on anime, as well as a few options that were the inspiration behind the anime.

Bang Dream! Girls Band Party

  • Game Launch: 2017
  • Anime Release: 2017 (3 seasons and spin-off shorts)

First up, we have Bang Dream! Girls Band Party. This is a band-centric rhythm game that lets you jam out alongside seven bands, each composed of five members. Bang Dream has original songs that you can play, but there are also a wide variety of covers, ranging from pop songs to anime openings (yes, you can play A Cruel Angel’s Thesis).

This is my favorite game on the list! I began playing this back in 2018 and have been a fan since.

Each band in this game has its own unique style, and if you are looking for even more of a reason to play, each member is voiced by the musician who actually plays the instrument. That’s right, you can watch bands like Roselia actually take to the stage and play these songs.

6

Fate Grand Order

  • Game Launch: 2015
  • Anime Release: 2006

    • This is for the original Fate/Stay Night, which was based on a visual novel. There is also an anime especially based on FGO, which aired in 2019.

Fate/Grand Order is an absolute classic, set in a franchise with multiple games and anime for you to enjoy. The premise is simple; servants are summoned to compete in the Holy Grail War. Of course, this simple concept has led to many unique stories within the franchise, including that of Fate/Grand Order.

This mobile game has a huge roster, allowing you to summon characters unique to the anime, as well as historical figures such as Oda Nobunaga and Leonardo DaVinci. If you want a game that’s packed with content, this game is the one for you.

5

Dragon Ball Legends

  • Game Launch: 2018
  • Anime Release: 1986

    • There are a lot of anime series within the Dragon Ball Franchise.

At this point, we all know what Dragon Ball is. Since the ’80s, there has been a steady stream of content coming out within the franchise, so it’s no surprise that Dragon Ball Legends exists. This mobile game combines the iconic franchise with card-based combat.

The card mechanic is used to fight; while in combat, you will automatically draw cards that can be used to deal damage. Interestingly, Dragon Ball Legends also features real-time PvP, which is quite impressive for a mobile game.

4

One Piece Bounty Rush

  • Game Launch: 2019
  • Anime Release: 1997

One Piece is another iconic franchise that needs no introduction. This anime is filled with unique characters, silly abilities, and great world-building, so it seems like a mobile game is the perfect fit. Rather than questing through a story alone though, the spotlight of One Piece Bounty Rush is the 4v4 battles.

This is a great mobile game option if you are a fan of playing with (and against) other real players. On top of that, the matches only last, at most, three minutes, so you can play this game casually without investing too much time on one single match.

3

Slime – Isekai Memories

  • Game Launch: 2021
  • Anime Release: 2018

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a modern isekai anime where, as you might have guessed, the main character dies and gets reincarnated as a slime. This isn’t just any slime though; he is incredibly strong and pretty much worshipped by those around him.

Slime – Isekai Memories stays true to this plot, this time bringing you to a 3D RPG world. The story itself was written by the author of the light novels, and as an added bonus, you will be able to build up the city and spend some time walking around it!

2

Azur Lane

  • Game Launch: 2017
  • Anime Release: 2019

Next up, we have Azur Lane. If you are a fan of gacha games in general, then you’ve probably heard of this unique, side-scrolling game that lets you battle with anthropomorphic ships. Yes, you heard that right; the characters in this game are all humanized ships, such as Akagi (which is a Japanese aircraft carrier) and Arizona (who is based on the USS Arizona battleship).

The gameplay itself is a bit different from the typical gacha game though, as you will need to defeat foes on a side-scrolling screen. You’ll also have the chance to form a relationship with one of the characters and basically get married to a ship.

1

Black Clover M

  • Game Launch: 2023
  • Anime Release: 2017

Last but not least, we have Black Clover M. This game is a tactical RPG set in the world of Black Clover, which means that you can accompany Asta on his journey to become the Wizard King. While it does feel very similar to the anime, Black Clover M is filled with great graphics, setting it above many other anime-based mobile games.

Overall, this is a great mobile game to play if you want to experience the story of Black Clover in a slightly more interactive way. Since it’s a gacha game, you can also summon some fan-favorite characters such as Yami Sukehiro.
