NPSO deputies responded to a complaint of animal neglect on August 23 on Pecan Court in the Cedar Grove Subdivision. A citizen claimed the dogs were malnourished and “horrifying” to look at.

When deputies arrived, they found two pit bulldogs chained to a fence with their ribs and spine areas showing and no food or water. NPSO said the dogs seemed weak, and one had flesh scabs. Deputies described the animals in “deplorable conditions” and believed the dogs had not eaten in several days.

NPSO Animal Services seized the dogs to be evaluated.

Deputies made contact with the dogs’ owner, Alvin Metoyer, 47, who claimed the dogs were not eating because they were sick.

Metoyer was arrested and charged with two counts of cruelty to animals. He remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
