Police rescue 24 animals from property without food, water

ST. CLAIR Co., Mich. (WNEM) – Michigan State Police troopers, along with animal control officers, rescued 24 animals from a property in St. Clair County.

The animals did not have food, water, or proper living conditions, MSP said, adding several dogs were found locked in crates in a barn on the property with a temperature of 109 degrees Fahrenheit.

Several of the dogs also had injuries, MSP said.

The troopers initially responded to the Burtchville residence on Monday, Aug. 26 for a complaint of dogs attacking a neighbor’s chickens. That is when they discovered the animals.

Police and animal control officers rescued 24 animals including donkeys, goats, cats, dogs, a turkey, and chickens.

The incident remains under investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be sent to the St. Clair County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
