How many updates will the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra get?

Samsung’s smartwatches, like its smartphones, are supported with regular software updates for many years after launch. Samsung shifted from its in-house Tizen OS to Google’s Wear OS back in 2021; a year later, the company revealed that it would support all of these smartwatches with up to four generations of One UI Watch and Wear OS upgrades.Summarize in one-click with Galaxy AI

In July 2024, the Korean giant launched its fourth-generation Wear OS smartwatches. The Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra come running Wear OS 5 out of the box, with version 6 of Samsung’s One UI Watch interface on top.

Galaxy Watch 7 and Ultra to get four generations of Wear OS, One UI Watch updates

The Watch 7 and Watch Ultra also pack better hardware than their predecessors and, in the case of the Ultra, a much bigger price tag. But what about software updates? Will Samsung support the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra longer, like flagship Galaxy phones launched in 2024?

Like the Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 5, and Watch 6 lineups, the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra are eligible for four generations of One UI Watch and Wear OS upgrades. They may get some minor updates to enhance reliability and security after that, but those will likely be few and far between.

Could Samsung change its update policy in the coming years and extend support for these watches? We would certainly like the company to do that for at least the Galaxy Watch Ultra considering its expensive $650 price tag, but it remains to be seen whether that will actually happen.
