PlayStation 5 gamers surprised with 9/10 free game you could grab now

I hate to ask it of you, but I want you to cast your mind back to 2020.

It’s not a year that many of us want to remember, but it did bring us some gaming treats.

The Last of Us Part II, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Cyberpunk 2077, Fall Guys, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Astro’s Playroom, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Ghost of Tsushima, and Resident Evil 3 are just a few of the titles that kept us busy during endless lockdown periods.

You may also recall that Risk of Rain 2 launched.

Developed by Hopoo Games and Gearbox Software, Risk of Rain 2 is a roguelite third-person shooter that sees players control a survivor stranded on an alien planet.

It’s the follow-up to 2013’s, you guessed it, Risk of Rain and while it may not have achieved the same level of success as some of the aforementioned titles, Risk of Rain 2 is still a very respectable, well-crafted sequel.

Don’t just take my word for it. The game garnered a score of 85 over on Metacritic and has a rating of 96% on Steam.

Well, if you’re a fan of the title, a free little treat may have just landed.

Four years on, a new-gen PlayStation 5 version of the game is now ready and those who already own Risk of Rain 2 on PlayStation 4 can nab it for free.

ICYMI: Take a look at the trailer for Astro Bot ahead of its launch next week.

Time for a replay? I think so.

PlayStation 4 owners of the game should be able to see a prompt asking if they want to download the new PlayStation 5 version free of charge.

What’s the benefit of doing so, I hear you ask?

Risk of Rain 2’s PlayStation 5 version introduces a number of new features including split-screen local multiplayer.

The frame rate has been boosted to 60fps and you can now enjoy 4K resolution.

Additional trophies have been added and, of course, there’s new DualSense controller feedback.

If you don’t already own Risk of Rain 2, don’t worry.

You can still get involved … just not for free.

The port is available for all to purchase for $24.99. I have to say, I’m tempted.
