Marvel fans want Sydney Sweeney to play Black Cat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), following her role as Julia Cornwall, an iteration of Spider-Woman in Madame Web. One artist fulfilled that in one of his fan art shared on social media and many loved it.

Sweeney made her Marvel debut in Madame Web. However, the superhero flick was a disappointing failure after it underperformed at the box office. Due to its poor performance, there’s very little chance that Sony will release a sequel or even a spinoff for the character. However, fans love Sweeney and they want her to appear in the MCU. Many hoped Marvel would cast her as Black Cat and one artist brought this to life in beautiful fan art.

Artist Boss Logic gave in to several of his fans’ requests — to paint Sweeny rocking the Black Cat costume. In the photo shared on Instagram, the Euphoria star looks perfect and is in character as Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat. The leather-like bodysuit with fur trim showcased her figure and the black domino mask that covers her eyes adds mystique to her identity. Black Cat’s platinum blonde hair also suits Sweeney.

The majority agreed that Sweeney was perfect to play Black Cat. A number said they were down to seeing it happen for real and they found the artwork awesome. However, although many loved Sweeney possibly playing the Black Cat in the franchise, there are a few who aren’t sure about her playing the role, probably, they weren’t sure about her acting prowess. Hollywood producer Carol Baum previously criticized Sweeney’s talent and appearance. “I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?'” Baum, whose credits include Father of the Bride and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, told Daily Mail. To be fair to Sweeney, she’s one of the rising stars after her supporting role on HBO’s Euphoria. Her performance in the second season even earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2022.

It’s not new for stars to portray an MCU character after having appeared in previous Marvel movies, so there’s always the possibility of Sweeney playing Black Cat in the future despite her role in Madame Web. For instance, Chris Evans starred as Johnny Storm, also known as Human Torch, in The Fantastic Four before he became Captain America in The Avengers. Robert Downey Jr. is also making an MCU comeback in the upcoming two Avengers movies as supervillain Doctor Doom after portraying the fan-favorite Iron Man. So, Sweeney showing up in the MCU as Black Cat after portraying Julia Cornwall in Madame Web is not unlikely.

Sweeney is also likely down to playing Black Cat if there’s an opportunity. She previously said that her appearance in the flopped Madame Web was a “strategic business decision” because it got her in the door at Sony Pictures and helped her sell her romantic comedy Anyone But You opposite Glen Powell. The Spider-Man character is owned by Marvel Comics, which was purchased by Walt Disney Company in 2009. They have all the rights for the publishing, merchandising, and trademarks. However, Sony Pictures owns the film rights for the Spider-Man universe, including characters related to it like Venom, Black Cat and more. So, Black Cat is not out of Sweeney’s league, especially now that she’s already on Sony Pictures.
