How To Adopt All The Animals In Like A Dragon: Ishin

Another Life is the premier mini-game in Like A Dragon: Ishin. Through this mode, you will grow vegetables, cook meals, and sell it all for a premium on the open market. There are a number of ways to enhance your home. This ranges from building a chicken coop to the to redecorating your home. One of the most pivotal aspects is the ability to acquire a whole host of different animals. You can adopt up to three dogs and three cats.

But you won’t be alone in your country living. You will be joined by Like A Dragon: Ishin’s own version of Haruka! Completing tasks will improve your relationship with her. As you grow your bond, you will unlock special cutscenes which show how your relationship has grown. This guide will help unify all the different aspects of the Another Life section of the game. It will be the one-stop-shop for all your Another Life needs.

Haruka’s Debt

Like A Dragon Ishin, Fishing Guide, The shinto shrine

Haruka is 100 Ryo in debt. You will pay this debt off 20 Ryo at a time. A messenger will deliver you each bill, and you will pay the loan at the Fushimi Shinto Temple. You don’t actually have to make these payments. You won’t be punished for never paying up.

The first payment does net you a kimono for Haruka, but after that there is very little to gain, outside completing the Another Life requirement, that is. However, once you get making orders on the regular, you will have enough money to pay off the debt without issue.

Orders

Like A Dragon Ishin, The cabinet where you fulfil orders from

The cabinet in the back corner of the room is where you interact with the orders. You can sell your crops, meals, and fish here. When you fulfill orders you will make a considerable amount more than you would selling your goods to a pawn shop. You can only get new orders by clearing old orders. As you clear more orders, they will, unsurprisingly, require more valuable crops, meals, and fish. The last few spots are always seemingly random junk. Most of these things can be acquired by fighting thugs, and searching pots.

We found the pillbugs a real pain in the butt to get ten of. However, they seemed to appear in pots around Rakunai more often than in other areas, but we did find some all over Kyo. Just travel from pot to pot searching them, and you will eventually get all ten.

Farming

Like A Dragon Ishin, crops growing on the farm

A big part of Another Life is the farming component. You will be able to gradually acquire a large supply of a large variety of crops. You can either sell these in the orders section, or you can use them to cook a variety of different meals. For more information on farming, check out our complete farming guide.

Cooking

Like A Dragon Ishin, Chopping Vegetables

The cooking mini-game is a valuable source of healing items, as many of these dishes are extremely potent and can build Heat. The dishes will also be sold in the orders section of Another Life. For more information on cooking, check out our complete cooking guide.

Another Life Overview

Like A Dragon Ishin, Haruka delivering orders late at night

Here is the primary thrust of Another Life. You want to grow crops, go fishing, cook food, and then sell your crops, fish, and meals through your Orders system. The most elegant element of this system is that you can never truly spin your wheels here. You can go fishing, and just catch whatever, and it will still be incredibly helpful, as you can sell those fish in the “any ten fish” orders. The same is true for the meals you cook and the crops you grow.

Naturally, you will want to build up to a point where you are catching more valuable fish, and cooking more valuable meals, but you should take some comfort in knowing that while there are better ways to do things, if you are actively engaging with the Another Life mode, there are very few bad ways to do things.

Building Haruka’s Trust

Like A Dragon Ishin, Haruka's trust meter grows

Your relationship with Haruka will grow steadily as your farm grows. Whenever you complete an order, or cook a dish, you will improve your relationship with her. Your relationship with Haruka is depicted as a flower with seven pedals. Each pedal is another level. While it seems to grow pretty slowly, you will likely find that you max this relationship out long before you are finished with the Another Life mode. There are three separate scenes you can view with Haruka.

Ear Cleaning

Take a break by the hanging teapot

Bathing Scene

Take a bath

Sleeping Scene (No, it’s not like that)

Interact with the futon (this only activates at night)

There appears to be some element of randomness here. We recommend taking a bath, taking a break, and sleeping on the futon whenever you raise your trust level with Haruka. These scenes will eventually activate. If you are struggling to get the Futon scene to activate, it is probably because it isn’t night. This is a hard requirement.

Adoptable Pets

Like A Dragon Ishin, Showing the full roster of pets-1

You will be able to recruit three dogs and three cats. Dogs will occasionally find you valuable items, cats, on the other hand, will sometimes provide you with extra reward when you complete orders. Interacting with each animal will also provide you with an amount of Virtue. If you have fully upgraded your Virtue acquisition, then each time you interact with a pet you will gain a total of 30 Virtue from every interaction with each animal. This means that you will gain 180 Virtue per rotation. All you need to do is cook a meal to reset these interactions.

Patient Dog

Like A Dragon Ishin, A patient dog after Ryoma fed him

This furry friend is located in the west side of Fushimi. He is just in need of some food. You can give him anything. We had a bunch of oranges in our pockets, so this pooch got his vitamin C. Once you have fed him five times, he will come home with you.

Barking Dog

Like A Dragon Ishin, The Barking Dog is doing his thing (and his think is barking)

This little dude is just south of the bridge on the east side of Rakunai. He is barking too much, which is upsetting the neighbors. Go buy five bones from the nearby Pawn Shop (the one on the main street). Keep coming back in and visiting him and giving him a new bone each time.

Injured Dog

Like A Dragon Ishin, Interacting with the injured dog

This dog is in the northeast corner of the Mukurogai and is being abused, you will need to bring him any medicine. So, ointments are your most budget friendly option. After you have given him medicine five times, you will confront the thugs who have been roughing the poor guy up. Stab them, shoot them, and make them suffer. Then you will adopt the Injured Dog,

Clumsy CatLike A Dragon Ishin, The Clumsy Cat is chillin at the dock

The clumsy cat is beside the boatman who takes you to your farm in Fushimi. You just need to interact with him five times and you will adopt him.

Lucky Cat

Like A Dragon Ishin, The Lucky Cat looking very happy

This guy is just a little east of the Shinto Temple in Rakunai. You will need to keep revisiting him and giving him money. The amount you give the Lucky Cat will gradually increase. The final payment will be 1 Ryo. But worry not, if you follow him at the end, you will get all your money back and then some after beating up some goons.

Hungry Cat

Like A Dragon Ishin, The Hungry Cat is happy after being given a fish

This cat is in Rakugai; it is just a little east of the Chicken Race Track. You will need to bring it fish. You can give it any first for the first four interactions, however, the final fish you give the Hungry Cat needs to be a bluefin tuna.

Taking Care Of Your Pets

Like A Dragon Ishin, A very sad dog

Whenever you interact with one of your pets, Ryoma will say a line of dialogue. Whatever he says will indicate what your pet needs. Dogs and cats have the same prompts. And, for the most part, they will consistently stick to the pattern (we will get into the exception to that rule at the bottom of this section). Just follow the guide below to consistently get the best result and improve your relationship with your pets.

Sad

HappyLike A Dragon Ishin, Interacting with your Lucky cat

While we are confident that the answers for the other states will always yield a positive result, the same can not be said about the state of a happy animal. There are two different prompts: Ryoma will either say “Looks like you’re in a very good mood. I’m glad.” or “Hm, you look like you’re in a good mood.” However, the correct answer here seems to change every time.
