Heartland Gardener Paul Schnare dies at 79

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – Paul Schnare, known for years as the Heartland Gardener on KFVS, has died at 79.

According to the Ford and Sons Funeral Home website, his funeral will be Saturday, August 24 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Schnare was born on May 21, 1945 in Marshall, Mo.

According to his obituary, he moved to Cape Girardeau in 1955. He went to Cape Central High School where he played clarinet, saxophone and bassoon in both the band and the orchestra.

In 1992, he bought Sunny Hill Garden Center and changed the name to Sunny Hill Gardens and Florist.

He was regularly featured on KFVS sharing gardening tips as the Heartland Gardener.
