Tekken 8 rumored to be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2

Will other fighting games follow suit?

Rumors and leaks about the Switch 2 continue to come in at a fast and furious pace, with the latest being about Tekken 8 hitting Nintendo’s yet to be officially announced console.

This leak comes from the French retailer Fnac, and a bit of online sleuthing. The listings showed up on Fnac’s website, and their EANs (European Article Numbers) were compared to existing products and pages to deduce that Tekken 8 will likely be coming to the Switch 2 in the future.

While not an exact science, the fact that the EANs so closely resemble other products is leading many to believe that Tekken 8 is a lock for the Switch 2, especially considering we saw Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition back in September 2011, as Bandai Namco has a history of releasing some of their fighting games on Nintendo’s consoles.

Tekken 8 has crossplay enabled between PC, PlayStation and Xbox players, so it’ll be interesting to see if the developers are able to get this working on Nintendo’s unannounced console too, or if it’ll be a specialized port, similar to the Wii U Edition of Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

The Switch 2 is rumored to be considerably more powerful than the original Switch, and will supposedly offer features like DLSS, which will significantly boost frame rates and overall performance, which should help it keep a better pace with other modern hardware.

However, Nintendo consoles have a spotty record when it comes to Fighting Game Community titles, with many players noting that Mortal Kombat 1 on the original Switch left quite a bit to be desired compared to its versions on other consoles. We likely won’t know how performant the Switch 2 is until Nintendo officially unveils the new console.

If this rumor ends up being true, it’s possible we’ll see additional ports of games like Street Fighter 6 hit this new system, potentially alongside an expected new entry into the Super Smash Bros. series, since Nintendo has created a new game every time they’ve released a new console since 1999 debut of the series on the Nintendo 64.
