Minecraft players call on Mojang to reverse new update’s controversial bug fixes
Members of the Minecraft community are calling on Mojang to revert two recent bug fixes, because both are heavily used by the game’s parkour and speedbridging communities. Mojang fixed these movement bugs in the most recent snapshot, but a new feedback post is petitioning the developer to consider reverting the changes as they’re seen as features by some players.
Mojang’s Minecraft snapshot 25w02a is the first of 2025, and it’s a big one. We’ve got new Minecraft pig variants, more blocks, and ambient features that breathe new life into the world, but for some players, Mojang’s actively taken mechanics away from them. For a while now, parkour and speedbridging players in the sandbox game have utilized two specific glitches to get around faster, and Mojang has removed them in the latest snapshot.
That’s why a new feedback petition is requesting Mojang bring both of the glitches back, because high-level parkour and speedbridging players would be losing out on some pretty important mechanics otherwise.
“On behalf of the parkour and speedbridging communities, bug fixes MC-271065 and MC-241951 need to be reverted,” the feedback post begins. “Furthermore, these are actually considered features to many high-level parkour players and speed-bridgers, and should be classified as such.”
MC-271065 is a glitch that helps players go faster when moving diagonally. Players can move quicker when doing actions like crouching or drawing back a bow by holding two movement keys at the same time, with them moving around 40% faster than normal.
“Taking away the 40% speed increase along the diagonal will hurt a lot of mechanics, maps, and techniques that depend on this, both in parkour and speedbridging,” the post continues. “Such a major rework will hurt these communities in the long and short term. This ‘bug’ has established use in these communities, and will frankly affect more than just them. For example, as a user shared here, building in survival will be much more tedious, since placing blocks will be considerably slower on roofs.”
MC-241951, on the other hand, is a bug where player momentum on the X and Z axis are canceled separately at low values, which means players can move perfectly aligned with Minecraft’s block grid.
“Also, taking away the individual axis cancelation of movement at slow speeds significantly impacts sidestep, which is hugely important in parkour and speedbridging,” the petition post adds. “This is a common effect in video games often implemented purposefully, such as b-hopping in CSGO or Quake. It will negatively impact the movement experience in Minecraft and make it more wooden and stiff.
“I think there is no need to implement any of these changes. This will affect the casual experience by purposefully nerfing player movement, and it will affect high-level play significantly; that, in turn, will hurt Minecraft’s longevity and force players to older versions. Please, Mojang, do not implement these changes.”
While Mojang is just fixing these bugs in snapshot 25w02a, many in the Minecraft community have come to view the unintended movement glitches as features. That’s why the petition on the Minecraft feedback website already has 1,100 votes, as many players would rather these errors remain in the game.
