10ID Maintains Drug-Free Force with Negative Test Results
AFTER the Davao police, now it’s the personnel of the 10th Infantry Division (10ID) of the Philippine Army (PA) who yielded negative in the random drug test conducted on January 2, 2025.
All 326 personnel and officials, including several members of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) of the 10ID underwent the random drug testing.
10ID Division of Public Affairs Office (DPAO) spokesperson Major Ruben Gadut said on January 9 described the recent development as a “good start” for the new year.
The test was facilitated within the division headquarters inside the 10ID Station Hospital.
The Philippine Army’s Anti-Narcotics Program is actively supported by the 10ID, which requires drug testing of any personnel pursuing reenlistment, education, or promotion. This preemptive step demonstrates the 10ID’s dedication to sustaining the highest levels of honesty and discipline as well as preserving a drug-free environment.
Last 2024, at least 28 personnel of the military unit tested positive for drugs.
Reports said that 17 were regular military personnel and the rest were members of the Cafgu.
According to Gadut, eight soldiers were immediately discharged from the service while 13 were awaiting discharge orders after the results were released in 2024.
He said that the seven Cafgu members’ tenure of service was immediately ended and the regular troops found positive for illegal drug use were discharged.
Mandatory drug testing for the Philippine Army is a requirement to ensure the physical and mental fitness of personnel, as well as to maintain the integrity and discipline of the force.
It is conducted as part of the recruitment process, as well as periodically throughout an individual’s service.
A soldier may be subject to disciplinary measures, such as suspension, dishonorable discharge, or other legal repercussions under Philippine law, particularly the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (Republic Act No. 9165), if they test positive for illegal drug use. DEF
