LG adjusting OLED production due to sluggish iPad Pro (M4) sales
Apple’s newest iPad Pros, which use OLED displays, are not selling as well as expected.
Sources told TheElec that LG Display plans to re-calibrate its production line from producing OLED panels for tablets and PCs, to the iPhone.
The decision is said to be driven by sluggish sales of the iPad Pro (M4). Re-calibrating the line not only helps LG Display save money, but also helps ramp up production capacity for the iPhone.
Apple unveiled the iPad Pro (M4) in May 2024. They were the first iPads to sport OLED displays and the 13-inch model is the thinnest Apple product to date at just 5.1mm.
In October 2024, Display Supply Chain Consultants reported that shipments of the tablets had been lowered from 10 million to just 6.7 million units. The weak demand is attributed to the high price points of the tablets. Plans to equip the iPad Air with an OLED screen are reportedly delayed till 2028.
