Apple to release M4 MacBook Air in 2025
Apple is set to launch the highly anticipated M4-powered MacBook Air laptop in early 2025. The M4 chip, which debuted in the iPad Pro in the summer of 2024 and the MacBook Pro laptops in the fall, promises to bring significant enhancements to the MacBook Air’s performance and capabilities. The M4 chip offers up to 25 percent more performance than its predecessor, the M3 chipset.
While the MacBook Air relies on passive cooling, which may result in earlier thermal limiting compared to the Pro models, users can still expect a notable performance boost. The improved efficiency also translates to better battery life for less demanding tasks, making it ideal for users on the go. Apple has decided to upgrade the base model of the MacBook Air from 8 GB to 16 GB of RAM, driven by the demands of generative AI.
This increase will support Apple’s AI initiatives, known as Apple Intelligence, ensuring the system runs more efficiently and benefits the entire system’s performance.
M4 MacBook Air enhancements
In response to the rise of remote working and video calls, Apple is expected to upgrade the MacBook Air’s forward-facing camera to a 12-megapixel unit.
The camera will also feature AI-powered machine learning to keep users centered in the frame, enhancing the video chat experience. While the transition from the M3 to M4 MacBook Air is not expected to bring major design overhauls, several minor feature improvements are anticipated. An extra Thunderbolt 4 port will be added, increasing the total to three.
Users will also be able to connect two external monitors simultaneously with the laptop’s display, and the introduction of a nano-texture display will reduce glare. Although Apple does not have a fixed schedule for MacBook launches, recent reports suggest that the M4 MacBook Air could see a quieter release via a press release rather than a marquee event, potentially launching anytime from mid-January to mid-March. As the anticipation for Apple’s new MacBook Air continues to build, users can look forward to impactful updates that promise to delight both existing fans and new users alike.
