Switch 2 Joy-Cons Allegedly Leaked With Photos

A new leak shows a side profile of one of the Nintendo Switch 2‘s Joy-Cons, and there are certainly some differences from the original.

CentroLeaks on X posted two leaked pictures of the controllers, along with a comparison between the new and old versions. One of the clearest differences is the size of the controllers, with the Switch 2’s controllers being notably larger than the original.

As far as size, the front buttons and joystick appear to be generally the same, with more space on the bottom than on previous models. However, the SL and SR buttons are significantly larger, which is a welcome improvement from the tiny buttons at the top of the current Switch Joy-Cons.

An Official Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement is Coming in the Next 3 Months, TGA Reports

With all eyes on Nintendo heading into 2025, an announcement for the Switch’s successor may be on the horizon.

The images also show a black Joy-Con with a blue inner connector, but it’s unclear if this is the default color or if it’s a variant to be released separately. It appears to be the inverse of the current controllers’ color schemes, but the images only show the left Joy-Con, so there’s no way to know if the right one will be the same, but in red.

The alleged Switch 2 Joy-Cons also appear to have some new buttons, but their functionality isn’t apparent. In the center, it also looks like there is a new sensor, with CentroLeaks theorizing it may be an optical or IR sensor. There’s no word on whether it might be for improved motion tracking or a new feature entirely.

The Joy-Cons shown in the leaks look legitimate because of their serial numbers. Nintenleaks on X posted screenshots from the Nintendo of America Customer Support page, where the serial number in the leaked image is accepted as a valid code. This seems to confirm that it is a genuine Nintendo part, but the only real way to know is when the console is officially announced.

What is Known About the Nintendo Switch 2?

Nintendo Switch 2 potential model concept

As of now, there’s nothing officially known about the successor to the Nintendo Switch. Even talks about announcements and release dates have been based on rumors, but all signs are pointing to a January announcement with a March launch. There have been leaks regarding the Switch 2’s hardware, but given Nintendo’s track record with older hardware, there’s no telling what it could mean for overall performance.

It has been confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward compatible, meaning that current-gen Switch games will still be playable on the new console. The form factor was also confirmed to be about the same, with handheld and docked modes like the current version. Other than that, there’s no telling just what the console is going to look or play like.

Players will have to keep waiting patiently for Nintendo’s next console, but by the looks of things, not much longer. If all the leaks are correct, Nintendo’s next console should be in players’ hands before the summer.
