Catriona Gray weighs in on Chelsea Manalo’s chances at Miss Universe 2024

Former Miss Universe Catriona Gray has confirmed that she’s attending the Miss Universe pageant on November 17 in Mexico.

She said she’s going there to support the Philippines’ bet Chelsea Manalo, at the same time, she’s taking on the role as behind-the-scenes commentator once more.

“I’m there to support our own Chelsea (Manalo) but also to serve as a commentator,” she was quoted as saying in a Philippine STAR report.

“I’m very grateful for the trust of the Miss Universe organization for inviting me back for the third year in a row.”

Talking more about her experience as a commentator, Catriona also shared, “It’s my third year. It’s a very different experience each time, from watching as an audience member at home in past years, to being a candidate, to giving my farewell and passing over my title, and now being behind the scenes as a commentator. It’s a unique experience.”

She also shared her thoughts on the Miss Universe chances of Chelsea, who has already made history as the first Filipino of African descent to win the MUPH crown.

“I have really high hopes for Chelsea; I believe she’ll make us proud,” Catriona said.

“I’m really excited about her! I think she brings a fresh breath of air to the competition. I know she’s had ample time to prepare, so I’m excited, just like every other Filipino, to see how she will make us proud every single day, from day one to coronation.”

The Cornerstone artist was asked about Chelsea during an intimate presscon for her Legacy Ball, a fundraising event for her long-time charity, Young Focus, on Nov. 22 at the City of Dreams Manila. She will be auctioning off some of her gowns and other clothes she wore to special events and particularly showcase Filipino textile.
