‘Tell Me Lies’ Star Cat Missal Has Some Thoughts About Bree’s Relationship With Tom Ellis

Nothing says ‘gripping teenage rom-com’ more than a university student embarking on an affair with a married professor after learning about her boyfriend’s infidelity. If that sounds like something that, as a viewer, you could get on board with, then Tell Me Lies — and particularly Bree’s (Catherine Missal) storyline — may well be the show for you.

For the uninitiated, Tell Me Lies tells the story of the toxic relationship between two college students, Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White). The pair first meet during the first weeks of Lucy’s freshman year at the fictional Baird College, with the couple whose relationship eventually becomes a years-long on-again, off-again romance, with each of them cheating on other partners at various points along the way. The series comes with a ready-made fanbase too, having been based on Carola Lovering’s bestselling novel of the same name.

Season two, which is currently airing episodes weekly on Disney+, takes place in two timelines: one in 2008, with Lucy, Bree, and Pippa (Sonia Mena) returning to Baird for their second year of university and the other in 2015, as the group reunites to celebrate Bree and Evan’s (Braden Cook) wedding. And in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Missal confessed that her character Bree is very much being put through her paces in season two.

‘In this new situation that we see her get into in this season, although I may not necessarily agree with most of the choices that she makes, I see the kind of desperation and motivation that pulls her and guides her,’ Missal told the outlet. ‘It’s definitely not the best angel-devil shoulder situation.’

But as the pair’s situationship ‘kind of spirals and grows’ between Bree and Oliver (her married professor, played by Tom Ellis), it only makes things more complicated, especially with so many feelings at play. It also leaves viewers wondering about the impact it’s going to have on Bree and Evan in the future, as their characters are set to get married in the flash-forward 2015 timeline. Stay tuned for all to become clear very, very soon…
