Helping Hurricane Helene Recovery Efforts

Hurricane Helene has left a trail of destruction in its wake, but communities are coming together in the aftermath to begin the long road to recovery. As the powerful storm tore through coastal regions, many homes and businesses were severely damaged, thousands were left without power and over 200 lives have been lost so far. While the rebuilding process will take time, the strength and determination of those affected are already making a difference.

If you’re here in West Michigan wondering how you can help- a local business is making it their mission to head south to help, and you can help support them before they hit the road.

Reid from Tree of Sonder started his local business a little over a year ago in honor of his daughter, who passed away. He said he wanted to create a business that wasn’t just about making a profit, but rather also looking to help their community as well.

Since trees are frequently down in disasters of all sorts (including the Belmont, Michigan tornadoes that Tree of Sonders jumped in to help with, last year.) so they knew they could use their business to help when it was needed.

Now, Tree of Sonders is planning to take a crew down to Tennessee and the Carolinas to help provide relief to the families of Appalachia, and they’re asking for your help to fund their causes and for supplies to load into their vehicles

If you would like to make a donation, they are looking for the following items:

  • Water
  • dog/cat food (small portions)
  • bedding
  • tents
  • sleeping bags
  • cots
  • flashlights/batteries
  • toiletries
  • feminine hygiene products
  • 55-gallon contractor trash bags
  • hand sanitizer
  • school supplies
  • extension cords
  • generators and buddy heaters
