As per the account of the live-in partner of the victim on State of the Nation of GMA News, the victim went to go fishing.
When they were trying to reel in the fish, one of the fish caught was held by the victim.
He then tried to bite off the head.

However, the fish wriggled to escape and ended up getting inside the victim’s throat.
The fish then got stuck in his throat, blocking his airways, eventually leading to his death.
The report did not specify what kind of fish they caught, but the report stated that the throat of the victim swelled.
