The Epic Games Store for mobile could introduce the iconic free games program by 2025

Love it or loathe it, the Epic Games Store seems to be here to stay, and their latest expansion to mobile is yet another salvo launched by the company in their bid to overturn the perceived monopoly of giants like Apple and Google. And there are also plans for an enticing bonus that PC players have enjoyed to also join their mobile service sooner than you might think.

As reported by a number of outlets, Epic Games has announced long-term plans that would bring more than fifty third-party games to the service by 2025, as well as introducing its famed free games plan as well. Already having been long in place on PC, the Epic Games Store’s free games program offers a rotating series of titles that players can claim to permanently add to their inventory.

Were Epic Games to go ahead with this plan I wouldn’t be surprised if it proves to be a major boon for them in increasing their storefront’s popularity. While PC players are quite loyal to venerable storefronts like Steam, a lot of mobile players are hungry for more, and free is always more appealing to them.

However, the announcements also reveal some early cracks in the foundations. Much as how the lack of features like reviews and a shopping cart were a major issue for PC gamers in the early days of the Epic Game Store, the Unreal developer has also said that cross-platform play and in-game chat are currently still in development. If they’re a bit longer in arriving it may be that the new, highly-anticipated storefront could lose some of its considerable momentum.
