Huge Cat Eating From Counter Has Internet in Stitches: ‘Thought It’s a Dog’

TikTok users have been stunned by a massive cat named Zeus, after a video of him eating food from the kitchen counter with very minimal effort, thanks to his majestic size, went viral on social media.

The clip, shared in September by @zeus.mainecoon.official, shows a huge black Maine coon cat standing on his hind legs as he eats a snack off the kitchen counter while his owner cooks. The feline is so tall that users initially thought he was a dog, or even a horse.

One user, Aaliyah, jokingly asked the poster: “What’s this horse called?”

Pikaz01 posted: “Sir that’s a Bobcat.”

Aby@solar mounting wrote: “I thought it’s [a] dog, so big.”

A couple of seconds into the clip, the poster’s other cat, a regular short-haired tuxedo tabby, looking about three times smaller than Zeus, joins him for a snack, and the difference in size is astonishing.

Maine coons are the largest domesticated cat breed in the world, and their bodies can reach lengths of 40 inches, with their tails adding an additional 18 inches. They are also considerably heavier than regular cats, and can weigh up to 18 pounds.

These cats, characterized by long and fluffy fur, are known for being very affectionate and playful, and unlike most other breeds, they seek frequent interactions with their owners.

A Betterpet article reviewed by Dr. Bruce D. Armstrong, a veterinarian with over 40 years of experience, says that, while it is important to ensure your Maine coon receives all the nutrients and proteins they need as an active breed, it is also important not to overfeed them, to avoid diseases like obesity and diabetes.

Their size and activity levels require greater enrichment than regular cats, so you should make sure they always have toys to chase, and a tall, sturdy cat tree to climb on. A safe outdoor area would also be ideal for Maine coons.

Similar breeds include Norwegian forest cat, Persian cat and Turkish angora, which are often confused with Maine coons.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 10.6 million views and more than 851,000 likes on the platform.
