Galaxy A16 5G is official with promise of six years of updates!

The Galaxy A16 5G was expected to launch soon, and while Samsung doesn’t appear to have made an official announcement, the phone is now listed on its website in the Netherlands. The price isn’t listed yet, but we do get confirmation that the A16 5G will get updates for six years!

Galaxy A16 5G is first Samsung phone guaranteed to get updates for six years

Flagship Galaxy phones launched in 2024 are eligible for seven years of Android OS upgrades and security updates, and it looks like Samsung has settled on providing six years of updates for anything that isn’t a flagship. The A16 5G comes with Android 14 out of the box, so it’s guaranteed to make it to Android 20 or whatever version of Android is available in 2030.

The Galaxy A16 5G is also officially rated for dust and water resistance. It has an IP54 certification, which isn’t as good as the IP67 or IP68 rating found on costlier mid-range Samsung phones and all of the company’s flagships but is impressive for a lower-end device like the Galaxy A16 5G.

The Galaxy A16 5G has a slim 7.9mm profile, though that means it doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone port. Under the hood, the phone features a 5,000 mAh battery that charges at 25W and an Exynos 1330 processor that’s paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The 128GB of storage can be expanded by up to 1.5TB microSD cards. From what we know, that’s a first for Galaxy smartphones. All Galaxy smartphones launched before the A16 5G supported a maximum of 1TB microSD cards.

The rear camera setup on the A16 5G consists of a 50MP primary shooter, a 5MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. A 13-megapixel camera sits at the front for selfies and video calls.

The front camera sits inside an Infinity-U notch above a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. Samsung claims the screen has minimal bezels, but pictures of the phone don’t support those claims.

Color options for the Galaxy A16 5G include Blue Black, Light Gray, Gold, and Light Green, though availability may vary by market. As mentioned earlier, Samsung has not revealed the phone’s price. However, that will likely change soon.
