Foreign domestic helper arrested for allegedly pouring boiling water on employer’s dog

Hong Kong police arrested a 35-year-old female foreign domestic helper in Chai Wan in the early hours of Monday after she allegedly poured boiling water on her employer’s dog.

The case was reported to the police yesterday night after the employer noticed excessive shedding in his dog – a 14-year-old Doberman Pinscher. A check-up at a vet suggested that the dog had been mistreated, with blisters found on the dog’s skin.

The vet suspected that the blisters were the result of the dog having been in contact with boiling water or corrosive liquid.

After receiving the report, police officers arrested a 35-year-old non-ethnic Chinese woman for suspected animal cruelty.

People convicted of committing animal cruelty offenses face up to three years in jail and a fine of HK$200,000 under the city’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance.
