The Georgia National fair offers plenty of live animal shows and unique displays to enjoy. Here’s a few that caught our eye.
PERRY, Ga. — A wide variety of various animals and creatures take center stage at the Georgia National Fair every year.
One of the usual showcases is the goat and sheep show, which has people competing and showing off goats and sheep at the show.
One performer, Mallory Lee from Madison County, had been showing goats since she was in the first grade. She’s loved working with animals but also loves getting a chance to work with her family.
She’s loved the opportunity to compete and work with primarily goats, but got to work with sheep for the first time this year. She said she’s had to learn how to groom the sheep’s wool and used hairspray to make it stand up and look nice for the judges.
Another “animal” showcase at the fair is a bee stall being run. A stall by Honey Bee Story offered plenty of honey-based products for customers to take a look at.
They offer various types of honey, candles and honey candies for people to enjoy. There’s even a live honey bee display to enjoy and check out, which is changed every few days to give the bees a break and some freedom.
Joedi Smith, a part-owner of Honey Bee Story, said the stall has been around for 35 years. She’s been with the company for five years and has loved teaching people about the importance of honey bees.
“It’s an educational booth,” Smith said. “Children need to realize how important it is for the bees. If we don’t have bees, if we lost the bees after four or five years, we wouldn’t be able to survive. They’re good for pollination. If it weren’t for pollination, a lot of our crops would die.”
The Georgia National Fair will be around from Oct. 3 through Oct. 13.
