NDFP’s Luis Jalandoni passes away at 90

LONG-TIME National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) peace negotiator Luis Jalandoni died at the age of 90.

In a statement on Saturday evening, June 7, 2025, the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) confirmed Jalandoni’s passing at around 9:05 a.m. in Utrecht, Netherlands (3:05 p.m. in the Philippines).

The CPP said Jalandoni, the senior political consultant and executive committee member of the NDFP, was then surrounded by comrades, his wife Ka Coni, and his family.

“The Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines expresses its condolences to Ka Louie’s family, whose love, strength, and support accompanied him through decades of service to the Filipino people’s revolutionary cause,” it said.

Jalandoni served as chief negotiator of the NDFP, the CPP’s political wing, in the negotiations with the Philippine government that aims to end the decades-old communist insurgency in the country.

In 2019, then President Rodrigo Duterte ended the peace talks with the CPP-NDFP.

In 2022, Jalandoni, who had been in self-exile along with five alleged members of the CPP, was tagged as a terrorist by the Anti-Terrorism Council. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
