Assassin’s Creed Gamers Demand Desmond’s Return and More Isu Lore in Shadows
A curious little twist: While the official Assassin’s Creed account of Ubisoft maintained its jocular stance and tweeted “How about a Donut of Eden, though?” with a wonderful image that managed to stir excitement among players, the tweet was gradually spent with jokes, nostalgia trips, and genuine calls for the franchise to return to its roots by bringing back Desmond Miles and contributing to the Isu lore in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
The tweet was originally intended to be a light-hearted jab at the famous Pieces of Eden of the franchise, ancient artifacts created by the super advanced race known as the Isu. But the players weren’t just on here to enjoy these memes. A lot of them took this opportunity to express their serious frustration about the lack of a modern-day storyline. User @QTheSquid opined, “Bring back Desmond and make the modern timeline matter again. I don’t know why that is such a hard thing to do.” Others, like @ada_goose, even suggested a retcon: “I literally wish that they would just erase Desmond’s death and bring him back, acting like nothing happened.”
Desmond Miles—the original modern-day protagonist in the franchise—was killed in Assassin’s Creed III, so ever after, the modern-day segments generally have struggled for validity. Many, including @GeneratorRexy, continued telling Shadows to “kill the Animus hub” as being “awful” and accused Ubisoft of having forgotten the modern-day storyline, while others like @Timothy1395 started to wonder whether Shadows is going to have Isu artifacts, one of the prime aspects of this series’ lore.
While some took it way seriously, the other replies made their spoof. @TheHiddenOneAC: “I donut know how to feel about this post.” @postingshallow: “How about a Donut of Eden, dough?” Even the official Assassin’s Creed replied to some of these ridiculous conversations about mixed fillings saying, “It’s okay to have mixed fillings.”
Beneath all that, the meaning was pretty clear: The players want more from the franchise. Desmond could be brought back, or there could be more Isu stuff, or, just maybe, they could write a good modern-day story. The community is starving for something beyond all these donut jokes. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will either be the answer to that wish or slowly become a sad sapien of Ubisoft offering it only crumbs.
