Russian drone, missile attack across Ukraine kills 3 in Kyiv

KYIV, Ukraine — A massive Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv early Friday, June 6, 2025, killed at least three people and injured dozens more, marking one of the largest strikes against the Ukrainian capital in recent months. The assault involved an extensive barrage of approximately 452 drones and 45 missiles, including both cruise and ballistic types, targeting Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.

Explosions and fires were reported across multiple districts of Kyiv. A drone crashed into a residential building in the Solomyanskyi district, causing significant damage and igniting fires on the 11th floor of a 16-story apartment complex. Rescue operations are currently underway to evacuate residents and search for survivors amidst the debris. The city’s air defense forces were heavily engaged, actively intercepting the incoming aerial threats.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the fatalities and injuries, stating that three people were killed and many others wounded. The widespread attacks inflicted damage on residential buildings, government offices, and commercial facilities throughout the capital.

The strikes occurred shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed retaliation for a recent Ukrainian drone attack on Russian airbases, which reportedly destroyed dozens of Russian bombers. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the latest attacks and called for increased international pressure on Russia to halt the ongoing conflict.

This assault aligns with a broader pattern of intense Russian aerial campaigns against Ukraine, which have seen thousands of drones and missiles deployed since the conflict began.
