Suspect in slaying of 2 cops killed in encounter

The principal suspect in the slaying of two policemen in Bocaue, Bulacan was reportedly killed in an armed encounter that took place at Zone 7 in Barangay Bacagan, Baggao, Cagayan, at noon on June 4, 2025.

Baggao Police Station, intelligence units in Cagayan and Bulacan, 204th Maneuver Company of RMFB2, and other groups implemented the warrant of arrest against the suspect — Edison Bayumbon y Malubay, alias “Xander.”

Bayumbon is facing a double murder case in connection with the killing of Police Staff Sergeant Dennis G. Cudiamat at Police Staff Sergeant Gian George N. Dela Cruz.

The two police officers, who were both assigned at the Bocaue Municipal Police Station, were killed in March this year.

In the middle of the operation, police said the suspect suddenly pulled out a gun, shouted “I will not let myself be caught alive!” and shoot operatives.

Authorities retaliated and were able to hit the suspect who instantly died in the gun battle.

A Glock pistol with serial number PNP50742, owned by Cudiamat, was recovered from the crime scene, police said.

The suspect reportedly took the said pistol after he shot Cudiamat on March 8, 2025.

Brigadier General Jean S. Fajardo, director of Police Regional Office 3, said “justice has been achieved for Cudiamat, Dela Cruz and their families.”

“To all the operatives who participated in the operation, we salute your courage and dedication. In accordance with the directive of our dear President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., let us all make our communities safe and continue to strengthen security throughout country,” said Fajardo.
