Call of Duty 2026 is reportedly Modern Warfare 4 and set largely in Korea

It won’t be too long until we get to hear about what this year’s new Call of Duty game will be, with rumors currently claiming that Black Ops 6 will lead into another Black Ops title that leads on from the events of BO2. However, potential details about CoD 2026 have been trickling out too, and the latest information from a prominent leaker supports that it will be a return to the Modern Warfare universe. Interestingly, though, this MW4 will reportedly see most of its campaign take place in Korea.

As a quick recap, 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 campaign (which was arguably one of the most underbaked and underwhelming CoD campaigns ever) left things somewhat open with the series’ iconic villain, Makarov, still evading death. The love for the characters of the Modern Warfare series means it was always destined to make a comeback, and 2026 appears to be the year that will happen, according to several leaks that have emerged in recent months. Now, notable Call of Duty leaker ‘TheGhostOfHope’ has shared some of the things they’ve learned about the 2026 FPS game, seemingly titled Modern Warfare 4 and developed by Infinity Ward.

Korea will apparently be the main arena for MW4, with most of the campaign’s action taking place there. It’ll be such a prominent location that the Korean symbol for the number ‘4’ could appear on the game’s official logo and box art, according to TheGhostOfHope. “The campaign is planned to feature both South Korea and North Korea in a significant role,” the leaker claims.

Korea is a seldom visited location in Call of Duty, despite all the globe-trotting campaigns we’ve had in the past. From memory, the only time we’ve ever visited this part of the world is in the opening mission of Advanced Warfare, which takes place in Seoul, South Korea.

TheGhostOfHope claims that the iconic Task Force 141 will return, alongside the SAS and the Republic of Korea Army (that’s South Korea’s military) as the three main playable factions. With Makarov and the Konni group continuing to meddle in international affairs, this notoriously tense and highly militarized region of the world seems like somewhere suitable for the villain to “start a World War 3,” as the leaker claims. In terms of when in the Call of Duty timeline this all takes place, TheGhostOfHope says that “there [are] a few missions immediately after MWIII but most of it takes place in 2026 ‘present day’ which is when the game will release.”

They also state that, from what they’ve seen and heard, the campaign “sounds promising and different from other stuff they’ve [Infinity Ward] done previously,” which is encouraging to hear given the battering that MW3’s campaign received.

Of course, take all of this with a grain of salt – plans can change, and even the most reliable of leakers can sometimes be wide of the mark. We also still haven’t got official confirmation of what Call of Duty 2025 will be, so it’ll be a long while until we hear about 2026’s game.
