Epic Games Launches Unreal Engine 5.6 With Improvements To Speed, Hardware Ray Tracing, Animation Tools, Updated Device Profiles, and More

Epic Games has officially launched Unreal Engine 5.6, showcasing major performance improvements and new development tools during the State of Unreal event.

Epic has also optimised Unreal Engine’s performance during content streaming in gameplay and introduced updated device profiles specifically tuned for stable 60 FPS output.

Better Animation Workflows

Unreal Engine 5.6 includes several improvements to its in-editor animation toolset. The redesigned Motion Trails make animation editing more intuitive. Tween Tools have been upgraded to let animators adjust timing and movement on controls or selected keys more quickly. New hotkeys allow slider control without a mouse, and animators can now switch between different slider types more easily.

The Curve Editor toolbar has also been redesigned for speed and usability, simplifying how users handle key frames.

Other improvements include updates to MetaHuman Creator, a redesigned Content Browser, and various under-the-hood upgrades. Developers can find full update details on Unreal Engine’s official site.

As part of the showcase, Epic revealed a gorgeous tech demo of The Witcher 4 running on PlayStation 5 Pro at 60fps with ray tracing enabled, demonstrating Unreal Engine 5.6’s capabilities in action.
