Samsung To Release Android 15 Update With Galaxy S25

The rollout of Android 15 has been a weird one. It was oddly not rolled out together with this year’s edition of the Google Pixel, and for Samsung, a brand that had a history of quick rollouts, is struggling with it too. A new report indicates that the update, alongside the brand’s own One UI 7 overlay, may not get released until the launch of next year’s Galaxy S series.

9to5Google reports that as part of its opening keynote for Samsung Developer Conference 2024, the South Korean tech giant said that its Android 15 update won’t fully release until early 2025. Or more specifically, “the official version of the One UI 7 with all of the game-changing AI features will be released next year with the next Galaxy S series”.

Looking back to earlier this year, the Samsung Galaxy S24 family of phones, minus the FE of course, was launched around the middle of January. This could apply to the S25 line next year as well, and if it does, that’s when the brand’s devices are getting the Android 15 update, with the One UI 7 overlay. It remains to be seen if the current ones, including this year’s foldables, will be getting the update at the same time or a little later.

For what it’s worth, the report also mentions that Samsung did also say it will be releasing the beta for the new mobile OS, as well as its own overlay for it, by the end of the year. So far, vivo looks to be the only phone maker to have cracked the Android 15 puzzle, beating even Google itself, the maker of the mobile OS, to the punch.
