Fortnite OG Ranked Mode Gets Axed Next Season – Gamers React

Apparently, Epic Games is moving to sunset a Fortnite OG Ranked next season while the reactions from players have, to put it mildly, mostly mixed. Given only a single tweet of specifying the schedule: “FORTNITE OG RANKED WILL BE REMOVED NEXT SEASON 💀,” some players lamented its passing; others celebrated.

So what was OG Ranked? For those in the dark, OG Ranked was the competitive spin of Fortnite’s Throwback OG mode in which the classic map and weapons from the infancy days of the game were brought back. Apparently, not enough people played to justify keeping it around. A user named @LagavulinRon commented, “the 3 people playing it will be devastated,” perhaps insinuating that most felt that the mode was pretty much dead on arrival.

But the mood is no joking matter, and some are genuinely sad to see the OG Ranked removed. @Brantley123 retorted to the haters, “Low players or not, doesn’t mean nobody plays it.” Others, like @_Sol_Art_, however, say, “It is not necessary for every mode to have ranked,” probably alluding to the fact that Epic may be spreading itself too thin with so many competitive playlists.

So lets ask the bigger question—why remove it? Some suggest low player numbers, and others say Epic trying to kill off modes they feel are not necessary. @DustySketchbook pinpointed, “everything is spread out a bit too thin right now,” especially with an OG ranked Zero Build version also floating around. And let’s be honest; Fortnite prides itself on a ton of modes; from Battle Royale to Lego Fortnite to Rocket Racing, maybe being lean is the current plan at Epic.

Certainly, no real talk about Fortnite in any form, but bot, complaints will be entertained seriously. “And the regular version has 90 bots per lobby. What a fail,” @OMGKhaleesi lamented. @Bruh_Moment_69 then proceeded, “Please remove bots then.” So, with everything else as victims of a gain standstill, it’s bound to look at bot fingers.

Other people started looking ahead to a Street Fighter collab or something where they could finally grab those OG Battle Pass skins. “@Richard08445665 asked, ‘Anything on Street Fighter, since its anniversary?’” @nickmsolis512 responded, “I want OG battle pass skin teasers.” The rumor mill never seems to stop.

At the end of the day, maybe this is just Epic cutting off the dead weight. Almost every mode doesn’t have to have a ranked one, so it’s actually pretty sensible to cut down the split player base that’s already divided across so many playlists. For those few that actually cared about OG Ranked, though, this hurts.

So what’s down the road? More tweaks, more modes, and—let’s face it—more bots. Regular OG mode stays… for now.
