MANNING – Gardeners in the Manning area are in for a treat this fall as the Manning Council of Garden Clubs hosts its annual community program featuring Bryce Lane, a three-time Emmy Award-winning host of the popular UNC-TV show In the Garden with Bryce Lane. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 9th at 3:00 P.M. at Weldon Auditorium, 7 Maple Street in Manning.

Bryce Lane brings more than 35 years of horticultural expertise to his talks, offering practical gardening advice that can benefit everyone, from beginners to seasoned gardeners. Lane is well-known for his ability to turn complex horticultural science into easy-to-understand, actionable advice. He spent over 30 years teaching horticulture at NC State University, where he influenced over 20,000 students throughout his career. Even after retiring in 2014, Lane continues to share his passion for gardening by giving talks and teaching part-time at the JC Raulston Arboretum.

At this year’s event, Lane will cover two critical topics: Year-Round Container Gardens and The Nuts & Bolts of Pruning. Container gardening is particularly relevant for the Midlands, where container setups can help gardeners maintain thriving plants through fluctuating weather conditions, especially during the hot summer and cool fall months. Lane will discuss how to keep your container gardens flourishing all year long, offering valuable tips on plant selection, soil management, and watering techniques.

Pruning is another essential skill for any gardener in South Carolina’s zone 8b. Winter is a key time to prune shrubs and trees in preparation for the spring growing season. Lane will share expert advice on how to properly prune to promote healthy plant growth while maintaining the aesthetic beauty of your garden.

The event is free and open to the public, with door prizes and a Fall plant sale following the program. Whether you’re looking to expand your gardening knowledge or just want to connect with others in the community, this event is not to be missed. Mark your calendar for October 9th and join fellow garden enthusiasts for an afternoon of expert advice and practical gardening tips.
