EPHRATA — A 67-year-old woman from rural Ephrata was hospitalized Tuesday morning after being attacked by six dogs, according to a statement from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 7 a.m. in the 8000 block of Road 10 Northwest when a neighbor heard the victim’s cries for help.
“The quick action of the neighbor undoubtedly helped save the victim’s life,” the statement said.
After the neighbor intervened, the victim was transported back to her home, where emergency medical technicians began treating her injuries before transporting her to Columbia Basin Hospital for further care, according to the statement. The victim’s current medical condition remains unknown.
The dogs, which belong to a nearby resident, have been surrendered to GCSO Animal Control Officers. All six dogs, described as either pitbull or pitbull-mixed breeds, are currently on a standard 10-day hold at Grant County Animal Outreach to assess their vaccination status. Following this period, the dogs may face euthanasia due to the severity of the attack.
The dogs’ owner has received infractions for each of the six animals classified as potentially dangerous or dangerous dogs, totaling $6,150 in fines, according to the statement.
The responding agencies were GCSO, Multi-Agency Communications Center, LifeLine Ambulance, Columbia EMS and Grant County Fire District 3.
