Major General Nicolas Torre III is new PNP chief
POLICE Major General Nicolas Torre III is the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
This was announced by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin Thursday, May 29, 2025.
He said Torre will assume office on June 2.
Torre is a member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Tagapagpatupad Class of 1993.
He is currently the director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Torre served as the director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the Davao Regional Police Office where he led the successful arrest of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy after a 16-day extensive police operation.
He also led the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte and his turn over to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague, Netherlands amid the investigation of the alleged crime against humanity in the country during the implementation of his drug war.
“Si Presidente always demands performance kahit anong pinagawa sa’yo, you must exhibit some high degree level of performance, maybe that is one (his involvement in high-level operations a factor). I’m not going to discount that,” said Bersamin.
Torre will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on March 11, 2027. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
