Manny Pacquiao is among those who are mourning the passing of legendary Filipino musician Freddie Aguilar.

In an emotional Facebook post, Manny revealed how saddened he is over the unfortunate news.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Freddie Aguilar, a true legend and icon of Original Pilipino Music,” he expressed.
The boxing legend went on to tackle how much he admires Freddie’s timeless track “Anak.”

“His song ‘Anak’ touched my heart. It spoke to me, and to millions of people around the world. Totoong-totoo ang bawat salita. Ramdam mo ang sakit, ang pagsisisi, at ang pagmamahal ng isang anak.”
“Freddie’s music went beyond generations. It made us proud to be Filipino. His voice carried the soul of our nation. Malaki ang naiambag niya sa kultura at musika ng Pilipinas. Hindi natin siya malilimutan,” the athlete-politician continued, honoring the Filipino folk musician’s legacy.
The former senator likewise wrote an earnest message to Ka Freddie’s loved ones.
“To his family and friends, my heartfelt condolences. May you find strength in the legacy he leaves behind.”
Manny concluded his tribute post by writing a touching farewell message to the late OPM icon, who supported his recent senatorial bid.
“Thank you, Freddie, for the music. Thank you for telling our stories. Paalam, Ka Freddie.”
The legendary musician died at the age of 72 on May 27, 2025. The news was confirmed by his former partner Josephine Quiepo, the mother of his children, including singer Maegan Aguilar, during an interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.”
According to Josephine, the OPM artist died due to multiple organ failure. He lost his life while at the Philippine Heart Center.
Freddie Aguilar was born on February 5, 1953, and began performing OPM music in 1973. Throughout his five decades in the industry, he became known for songs with themes centered on family, patriotism, and social issues. During the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, he was appointed as the Presidential Adviser on Culture and the Arts and also served as a member of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Recently, Ara Mina has taken to social media to pay tribute to the late Freddie Aguilar. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ara shared a carousel post that contains photos and a clip displaying the present she received from Ka Freddie after they performed together. According to her post, the actress received a lovely painting from the OPM legend, which came with a handwritten note. In the caption, the actress wrote a message honoring Ka Freddie.
