Nintendo Switch 2 Has USB Mouse Support

Ever since the first the patent showed that the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers can be used as a mouse, the inexplicable thought is my head was “ergonomics nightmare”. This only got reinforced when the device was teased and subsequently launched. So it’s probably good to know that it does support USB mice connected to it, or at least one game does.

This comes via the developer commentary video for Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition by Koei Tecmo. The game’s producer first demonstrated using the right Joy-Con as a mouse for awhile, before showing the game working with a USB mouse at around the 10:45 mark. You even see the notification pop-up on screen, on the top left corner.

The Verge reports that Nintendo had a video earlier in the month showing a mouse pointer popping up on screen when you flip the Joy-Con 2 on its side. This was showcased on the Nintendo Today app, which is not yet officially available locally. Though it’s still unclear if this means that the company is fully supporting USB mice for the Switch 2.

Worth noting also that the first generation Nintendo Switch and all its variants already had keyboard and mouse support, according to VGC. But it’s not something that the company advertised much, with only a handful of games even supporting the feature.
