Senator Jinggoy, in a statement to GMA News Online, confirmed the assault on his son and nephew. He recounted that the attackers allegedly came from behind, and one of them confronted his nephew, reportedly telling him, “Masyado kang maangas” (You are too arrogant).
The senator asserted that there were no prior confrontations or disputes between the victims and the suspects inside the bar they had just exited, a detail he believes can be confirmed by available CCTV footage.
The assault quickly escalated as one of the three men began punching Julian, reportedly throwing him to the ground.
The other two individuals then allegedly joined in, continuing to physically assault the senator’s son.
Julian sustained a blow to the head and reportedly had a toenail chipped off as a result of being repeatedly kicked while he was down.
While specific details from the local police have remained limited, the incident gained wider traction when Julian Ejercito himself posted about the unfortunate situation on his Instagram story.
“To everyone expecting to see me at Epic tonight, I won’t be able to make it,” his post read, referring to a popular establishment in Boracay. “Got caught in a really unfortunate situation last night and need time to recover, both physically and mentally appreciate all your understanding and support. See you soon.”
This social media update confirmed his involvement in an incident that required him time for recuperation.
In response to the news, Senator Jinggoy reportedly flew to Boracay on Saturday to personally attend to the matter and engage with local authorities.
Further reports indicated that the three suspects allegedly involved in the assault have since been taken into police custody.
The local police in Boracay are expected to provide more details as their investigation progresses. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance even in popular tourist destinations, as authorities work to ensure the safety of both locals and visitors.
Jose Pimentel Ejercito Jr, more popularly known as Jinggoy Estrada, is a politician, actor, and producer. He served as Vice Mayor of San Juan in 1988 and is currently serving as a senator in the 19th Congress of the Philippines. He is the son of former President Joseph “Erap” Ejercito Estrada.
Meanwhile in a previous report, Sen. Jinggoy was accused of bullying by Pia Gil, a San Juan City Hall employee. Gil, who is an officer under the Office of The Mayor, was the woman in the now-viral video. According to Pia, the senator accused her of blocking his staff from entering the center. It is worth noting that the senator had already addressed the video in a statement.
Senator Jinggoy Estrada clarified the social media video showing him distributing aid to fire victims in San Juan City. Estrada stated that his representatives weren’t allowed to announce the upcoming aid distribution, forcing him to speak directly to the residents. Estrada revealed he confronted a local San Juan official, feeling that attempts were being made to portray him as misusing his Senate position. Estrada declared the spread of the TikTok video was politically motivated and challenged those behind it to explain their actions.
