How Many Nintendo Switch 2 Units Will Be In Japan At Launch?

While it’s true that some people are complaining about the Nintendo Switch 2 in various ways, from its price to its games to its components and so on, there are far more people chomping at the bit to get their hands on the new console. Arguably, the most surprising group of people to make their intentions known is the gamers from Japan. During the opening pre-order buzz for the system, over 2.2 million people tried to get the system reserved via Nintendo Store registration. It was so overwhelming in number that Nintendo’s President had to apologize to those who wouldn’t get the system at launch.

So, that begs the question, “How many Switch 2 units will be available in Japan at launch?” Thankfully, we may have the answer to that:

An estimated 1.2+ million Switch 2 units are being allocated for Japan at launch. To put this in perspective…Switch sold 330,000 units at launchPS2 sold 600,000 units at launch (current record)nintendosoup.com/nintendo-swi…

Those numbers truly say it all, don’t they? The Nintendo Switch 2 has the potential to sell around 4x what the OG Switch did in Japan during its launch.

Another thing to consider is that if they’re allocating 1.2 million to Japan for the launch, how many units will Nintendo send to the other big markets? You can bet that at least 2 million, using the Japan number as a baseline, will head to the US, if not much more than that.

We’re nearing the 10-day mark before launch, and you can bet Nintendo is scrambling to get as many Switch 2 systems made so that they’ll be ready, shipped, and then sold on launch day.
