The results of the popular contest run by Cardwell Garden Centre have just been announced and each of the successful gardeners was presented with a trophy and certificate, along with a £50 gift voucher.
And there were two winners from Largs – Elizabeth Urie lifted the Best Newcomer prize and youngsters from the Douglas Park Project won the Best Junior Gardener category.
Gardeners were asked to submit a maximum of three photographs per category they wanted to enter and judges in this year’s Gardenfest competition were Cardwell Garden Centre director Kieran Gallagher and gardening expert George Irvine.
Kieran said: “Some of the gardens we have seen this year were simply stunning.
“And what makes them even more amazing is the terrible weather we’ve had this summer, which certainly hasn’t been all that kind to gardeners.
“It’s heartening to see that gardening as a hobby is alive and well and there are lots of enthusiasts out there creating fabulous gardens.
“Well done to the winners and everyone who entered. It wasn’t an easy job judging the entries.”
Ian Sloan, from Prestwick, won the Best Overall Garden prize. The Best Planter Containers award went to Sheena Keill, from Gourock,
Helen Westwood, from Ayr won the Nature and Wildlife Friendly Garden category and the Best Community Garden trophy was lifted by the Blooming Inverkip group.
