Dengue cases in Bacolod up by 147.2%

DENGUE cases in Bacolod City have increased by 147.2 percent from January to May 10, 2025, compared to the same period in 2024.

Records from the City Health Office (CHO) revealed that the city had 356 dengue cases with two fatalities this year.

During the same period in 2024, there were only 144 cases and no deaths.

Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO’s Environment Sanitation Division, said of 61 barangays, Mansilingan led the list with 33 cases, followed by Barangay Estefania with 28 cases, Taculing and Alijis with 23 cases each, Villamonte with 22 cases, Mandalagan and Singcang with 20 cases each, Handumanan with 17 cases, and Cabug with 15 cases.

Tan said dengue continues to affect people of all ages and genders through bites from female-infected mosquitoes.

She said mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus breed in stagnant, clear water found in both large and small containers. Patients with dengue are prone to dehydration, which can lead to low blood pressure and shock.

Tan also reiterated the importance of following the Department of Health’s 4S program, which includes searching for and destroying mosquito breeding sites, using self-protection measures like wearing long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and applying mosquito repellent daily, seeking early consultation, and supporting fogging and spraying efforts.
