Davao City Maintains Gun Ban; 69 Nabbed Since January
DESPITE the successful conclusion of the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE), the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) remains in force, prompting Davao City authorities to continue heightened security measures across the city.
Earlier this week, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported that from January 12 to May 11, 2025, a total of 69 individuals were apprehended for violating the gun ban. During this period, police confiscated 55 firearms.
To enforce the ban and ensure public safety, the DCPO conducted 7,550 checkpoints throughout the city. These included 72 daily fixed checkpoints, as well as random inspections and joint Comelec-Davao checkpoints operated by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In support of election-related security and ongoing peacekeeping efforts, a total of 61,772 personnel from the AFP and PNP were deployed within the jurisdiction. Authorities said this extensive security presence played a key role in maintaining peace and order during and after the elections.
Police officials noted that the post-election period can still be volatile in some regions due to possible disputes, retaliation, or unresolved political tensions. Hence, the continued enforcement of the gun ban is crucial in preventing violence and ensuring public safety.
The DCPO also reiterated its commitment to the ongoing campaign against the proliferation of illegal firearms and its broader mission to maintain law and order in the city. Authorities remind the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, such as possessing firearms illegally.
Residents are also encouraged to continue cooperating with law enforcement checkpoints and support efforts to keep Davao City safe and peaceful as the gun ban remains in effect until June 11.
