
‘Wisest man I knew’: David Licauco mourns loss of columnist grandfather Jaime Licauco
— David Licauco mourns the passing of his grandfather, newspaper columnist and author Jaime Licauco.
The actor confirmed to Philstar.com and on his social media page the passing of the prolific writer and host.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Jaime T. Licauco, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully joined our Creator on May 15, 2025, at the age of 84,” David said in a message to Philstar.com.
“Born on July 25, 1940, Jaime lived a long and meaningful life guided by wisdom, humility, and a deep love for research and explaining the unknown. He will be remembered for his strength of character, gentle spirit, and the quiet legacy he built through the generations he nurtured and inspired.”
David described his grandfather as the wisest man he knew.
“The wisest man I knew — always chasing greatness, always sharing his wisdom. Thank you for the life talks, the lessons, the power of your mind. I’ll hold them close, always. Rest easy, lolo,” David wrote on Facebook.
Licauco is survived by his four children and their spouses: Sophia L. Eggleston and husband Steve, Jolan Alexander C. Licauco and wife Eden, Jaime Raphael Licauco and wife Timmy and Jason.
Also mourning his passing are his grandchildren and great-grandchild, who brought immense joy and pride to his later years, Elan, grandson-in-law Kay Kim, David, Jean, James, Thomas, Francesca and great granddaughter Jimin.
Licauco was a columnist at Philippine Daily Inquirer discussing topics on spirituality and the “unknown,” topics that were published in books, such as “Understanding the Pyschic Powers of Man,” “True Encounters With the Unknown,” and “Soul Mates: Karma and Reincarnation.”
Licauco’s memorial service memorial service will be held from May 17 to 19 at Loyola Chapels, Loyola Memorial Park, Sucat, Paranaque, with nightly prayers around 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on May 20 at 10 a.m. followed by interment at the same park.
