Woman Adopts Cat From Shelter, Then Her Morning Routine Takes Strange Turn
A woman who adopted a cat was unprepared for how her routine would take a turn, and her hilarious video of morning shower time has racked up nearly a million views.
Willem, an orange and white cat (@willempiedekat), enjoys joining his owner for a daily rinse in the shower. The shared footage of the cat’s morning soak has garnered 38,634 likes and 729,000 views on Instagram.
“You adopt an old cat from the shelter and this is now your morning routine,” the woman wrote as text overlaying the footage. She humorously captioned the post, “Sorry I’m late, my cat wanted to shower.”
The footage shows the adorable cat getting drenched as his owner soaks him with the shower, he even starts to lick the water.
Though most cats typically avoid water, Willem has embraced it in a way that has captured the internet’s attention. According to experts, some cats enjoy the shower because they are curious about water or find it soothing. Cats may also be interested in the sensory stimulation from the water’s sound and movement.
Additionally, there can be a range of health conditions such as urinary tract infections and kidney problems which lead to a water obsession, so it is important owners of water-loving felines seek veterinary advice to rule out any medical issues.
Social media users couldn’t get enough of Willem’s unusual habit and were quick to share their thoughts and similar experiences.
One user commented, “My old cat Little Guy started to shower with me when he couldn’t clean himself no more, he trusted me to clean him and dry him with a towel and the heat on afterward.”
Another quipped, “He needs a trip to Bath n Body Works… lol,” while many others expressed envy over Willem’s water-loving ways.
Others chimed in with their own stories. “You’re so lucky he isn’t afraid of water! Mine was so scared, last time we needed three people just to bathe him—it was exhausting,” wrote one commenter.
“I had an elder cat. From the time she was 17, she would jump into the shower with me. Though she never wanted a shower on her own, just if I were there,” shared another viewer.
“As a kid, I had a cat that loved morning showers. Before school, one of my chores was to give her a shower, lol,” another viewer reminisced.
