UW Horticulture to provide online gardening sessions | News

MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Madison Horticulture Program will offer a new lineup of free online gardening programs in October, intended to help gardeners and plant lovers be more successful with growing and caring for plants in Wisconsin.

While the programs are free to attend through a webinar, UW said registration is required for each session. All programs will be recorded and available for later viewing.

UW said the programs it will offer include:

  • “Unlocking Garden Potential: Making Sense of Soil Test Results” on Oct. 1, from noon to 12:30 p.m. Presented by Doug Soldat, a Soil Extension Specialist at the UW-Madison Department of Soil Science, this session will help home gardeners learn what soil test numbers really mean and how they translate into actionable steps for gardens.
  • “Soil Solutions: Boosting Your Garden Soil with Amendments” on Oct. 8, from noon to 12:30 p.m. Presented by Doug Soldat, a Soil Extension Specialist at the UW-Madison Department of Soil Science, this session will help gardeners discover how to adjust pH levels and apply the right fall fertilizers to boost soil. This program offers practical tips to help enhance a garden’s foundation, and is perfect for gardeners looking to make small changes that will have big impacts.
  • “Tackling Tough Weeds: Your Questions, Expert Answers” on Oct. 10. from noon to 1:00 p.m. Led by Doug Soldat, a Soil Extension Specialist at the UW-Madison Department of Soil Science, and Mark Renz, an Extension Weed Specialist at the UW-Madison Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences, this session will provide expert advice on tackling tough perennial weeds in gardens and lawns, through both pre-recorded sessions and a live Q&A feed.
