A toddler was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by a dog in Independence, Missouri, Tuesday morning.Officers and firefighters were called to a home in the 19000 block of East R.D. Mize Road around 10:10 a.m. after a child was reportedly attacked by a dog. When authorities arrived at the scene the dog had been secured in a kennel.The person who called 911 said a 5-year-old girl had a serious cut to her neck area along with other injuries after being mauled by a dog. The girl was rushed to an area hospital for treatment.The dog is now in custody of Animal Control officers.No information was provided on whether this animal was a family pet or what led up to the attack. The incident is now under investigation by the Independence Police Department.
