3 Can’t-Miss Prime Day Deals From Our Lead Laptop Reviewer

Over the course of 14 years of reviewing laptops, I’ve tested hundreds—from light, affordable Chromebooks to heavyweight, premium gaming rigs—so I know a worthwhile computer when I see one. And, as an inveterate cheapskate, I also know the value of a smoking-hot deal. This week’s Amazon Prime Day Big Deal Days allows me to flex both of those shopping muscles. Some truly fine laptops have been deeply discounted, giving you a chance at incredible savings without compromising on quality.

Spotting an honest laptop deal isn’t easy. Prices fluctuate throughout the year; technology changes and ages, and sales events are frequently filled with deals that are too good to be true. No need to worry about bogus bargains here, though, as the deals I’ve found are legit savings on systems that we’ve reviewed positively and, in some cases, awarded top honors. As I said, I’ve been around the block a few times, and these are the three best deals I’ve seen for Amazon’s big sale.

By the way, follow our Prime Day Live Blog for our favorite new deals as we find them! And don’t forget to check out our mega-post with 165+ of the Best Prime Day Deals available across 18 top tech categories.

The Microsoft Surface Pro is the pinnacle of tablet PC design, and the latest Snapdragon X-powered model is 15% off for this sale, making this a fantastic time to buy if you’re interested in Windows Copilot+ PCs, new AI tools, or simply the latest Microsoft hardware. When I reviewed the latest Surface Pro, I was deeply impressed by the OLED display and the capabilities of the Snapdragon X Elite, especially when powering Miocrosoft’s latest AI-on-device features. And did I mention the battery life? It lasted for more than 14 hours on a single charge, making this tablet PC one that you can carry all day, but leave the charger at home. The sale is for the Surface Pro tablet alone, but with these kinds of savings, you can use the extra cash to get yourself the accessories you need to turn the Surface tablet into a proper laptop replacement.

Chromebooks have long been popular and highly affordable, but the introduction of Chromebook Plus elevated the humble Chromebook considerably, with a higher baseline for hardware capabilities, screen resolution, and feature support. That change was enough that we not only gave the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 our Editors’ Choice award, but we also named it the best Chromebook of the year in 2023. With snappy performance, a high-quality display, a full port selection, and MIL-SPEC 810 durable construction, it’s one of the best-value Chromebooks we’ve ever reviewed even at its list price. Amazon has it for $320 during the event, which also makes it one of the best current deals I’ve seen.

LG gram 14 (2024)

A high-end ultraportable 2-in-1 for way less

$759.99
at Amazon

$1,299.99
Save $540.00

LG’s stunningly lightweight ultraportable laptop gets even better with the addition of 2-in-1 capability, making the LG gram 14-inch 2-in-1 one of the most versatile ultraportables on the market. I got my first look at the LG gram 14 2-in-1 earlier this year and was deeply impressed by just how slim and lightweight it really is. With a featherweight 2.75-pound design, it’s light enough to carry under your arm, or in a laptop bag all day long. And the inclusion of a touch screen and stylus pen makes it an excellent choice for anyone who wants to sketch and take notes by hand. Not only is this a super lightweight, flexible ultraportable, but Amazon dropped the price by a stunning 38%. That’s a pretty heavy discount for such an awesome lightweight 2-in-1.
