2 women in Coventry arrest after weeks-long animal cruelty investigation
COVENTRY, CT (WFSB) – Two women in Coventry were arrested following an animal cruelty investigation that spanned several weeks.
The suspects were identified as Sandra Lis and Kristal Lis.
Police said the investigation began after the they received information about many animals that were housed on Dunn Road property.
The investigation revealed that there were more than 100 animals on the property in varying conditions.
“A search and seizure warrant was obtained for the property and all animals were seized including horses, pigs, dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, and various species of birds and fowl,” Coventry police said. “In addition, eight deceased animals were seized from a freezer in the home. Those animals were later sent for necropsies at UConn.”
The animal seizure was completed with the help of several law enforcement agencies.
“We would like to thank these agencies for their assistance which was necessary due to the large number of animals that needed to be transported, housed, and cared for,” Coventry police said.
Both involved suspects were arrested this week on the strength of arrest warrants.
Sandra Lis was charged with 19 counts of cruelty to animals.
Kristal Lis was charged with 119 counts of cruelty to animals.
Both were released on non-surety bonds and are set to appear in court on Oct. 1.
